Typlo for macOS Is Now Available (Beta)

Typlo is now available for macOS. You can download it today as a Beta release for both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

This has been one of our most requested features since launch. The macOS version includes every feature from the Windows and Linux builds -- text expansion, advanced variables, Fill Form inputs, Python and JavaScript custom variables, local encryption, and the same generous free tier (5 snippets, all features unlocked).

What Is Included

The macOS Beta is a fully functional release. It is not a stripped-down preview. You get:

  • System-wide text expansion -- works in any app, browser, or text field on your Mac
  • Advanced variables -- date/time, clipboard, cursor positioning, and more
  • Fill Form variables -- interactive prompts that appear when a snippet expands
  • Python and JavaScript custom variables -- scripted dynamic content inside your snippets
  • Local-only storage -- your snippets never leave your machine
  • AES-256 encryption -- optional encryption for sensitive snippet content
  • Auto-updates -- the built-in updater will keep your Mac version current as we ship improvements

Why Beta

We are calling this a Beta because, while all features are implemented and functional, we have not yet verified every edge case on every macOS version and hardware combination. The core experience -- creating snippets, expanding text, managing variables -- works as expected. But there may be rough edges, particularly around:

  • Accessibility permission prompts on different macOS versions
  • Behavior in certain apps with custom text input handling
  • Edge cases with specific keyboard layouts or input methods

If you run into anything unexpected, please report it through the support page. Your feedback during the Beta phase directly shapes what we fix and polish before promoting to a stable release.

Two Builds: Intel and Apple Silicon

The download page now offers two separate macOS downloads:

  • Intel (x64) -- for Macs with Intel processors (pre-2020 and some 2020 models)
  • Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) -- native ARM build for Apple Silicon Macs, no Rosetta needed

The download page auto-detects your Mac type and recommends the right build. If you are unsure which you have, click the Apple menu > About This Mac. If the chip says "Apple M1" (or M2, M3, M4), download the Apple Silicon version. If it says "Intel," download the Intel version.

Installation

Installation follows the standard macOS pattern:

  1. Download the .dmg file from the download page
  2. Open the .dmg and drag Typlo to your Applications folder
  3. Launch Typlo from Applications or Spotlight
  4. Grant Accessibility permissions when prompted (required for text expansion to work system-wide)

macOS may show a security warning since Typlo is downloaded from the internet. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway" to proceed.

What Is Next

The Beta label will be removed once we have confirmed stability across a broader range of macOS configurations. In the meantime, the auto-updater will deliver fixes and improvements as they are ready -- you do not need to re-download manually.

We are also continuing work on Premium features and the planned Enterprise tier. The macOS version supports all the same licensing -- free tier with 5 snippets, or Premium at $24/year for unlimited snippets.
